The blue ocean concept is the result of thirty-year research conducted by Renée and Chan in which they studied organizations large and small, for-profit and non-profit and even governments. Renée has received numerous awards for her thought leadership including the prestigious Carl S. Sloane Award for Excellence for her innovative approach of management and leadership, the Nobels Colloquia Prize for Leadership on Business and Economic Thinking and the Eldridge Haynes Prize, awarded by the Academy of International Business and the Eldridge Haynes Memorial Trust of Business International, for the best original paper in the field of international business among others.
Renée Mauborgne served on President Barack Obama’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for the President’s two terms.
